Inshore Sheepshead Fishing Southern Outerbanks

Well it’s spring time in Morehead City and the black drum are still pretty thick. The sheepshead are making their way through the surf and the inlet finding shelter near oysters beds, rocks, pilings, and other structure.  The structure they feed around makes them hard to catch but easy to find, if you know what to look for.  Sheepshead can be found in deep fast moving water and shallow and slow moving water.  Here in Morehead City I prefer fishing deep docks with fast moving water using sand fleas, sea urchins, or one arm bandits (fiddler crabs) for bait.  My favorite

Cobia Fever

Well folks, there almost here.  The month of May is prime time for Cobia fishing.  Last year’s run was one of the best I’ve ever seen.  It was an abnormally warm winter so some of the fish have decided to show up early. Although they are not thick yet around the Cape, there are some still being caught.  Cobia tend to like the water temp between 70 and 75 degrees, so their numbers should continue to rise as the water temperature rises.
